Wirrabara Silo Art: Honouring History and Nature

Wirrabara’s silo art stands as a tribute to the town’s past and its natural beauty. Driving into town, we immediately spotted the towering artwork, a stunning addition to South Australia’s Silo Art Trail.

Painted by Sam Brooks in 2018, the mural features a logger, representing the town’s timber industry history, and a vibrant red-capped robin perched on a tree branch. The detail in the logger’s face, the folds of his work shirt, and the rich hues of the robin make the artwork feel alive. The surrounding bushland scene ties it all together, a nod to the stunning Wirrabara Forest nearby.

Standing at the base of the silos, we took in the scale of the piece. The contrast between industry and nature creates a powerful image—acknowledging the region’s working past while celebrating its wildlife.

Wirrabara itself is a quiet, welcoming town. We grabbed a coffee from the local café and wandered through, enjoying the slower pace. The silo art not only tells a story but also brings visitors to this small part of the Southern Flinders Ranges. If you're following the Silo Art Trail, make sure this one is on your list.
